Inmate at Dooly State Prison dead after stabbing, coroner says

They say inmate Zeary Davis died Thursday after being stabbed.

UNADILLA, Ga. — A Dooly State Prison inmate was stabbed to death Thursday, Dooly County Coroner James Hudson confirmed.

The Georgia Department of Correction confirms that inmate Zeary Davis died on Thursday. He was serving a life sentence out of Toombs County for murder and aggravated battery, and according to GDC inmate records, he started serving his sentence in 2021.

They say Davis' body was turned over to Hudson and his body will be taken to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy to determine the official cause of death.

His death is also being investigated by GDC's Office of Professional Standards, which is standard procedure, the GDC says. Because of that, they say no additional details are available.
