Man dead after being stabbed in Central State Prison

His body was then sent to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy.

MACON, Ga. — A man is dead after being stabbed in prison according to Coroner Leon Jones.

He says it happened early Sunday morning at Central State Prison on Fulton Mill Road.

Jones says the inmate, 28-year-old Hollis Bryant was stabbed multiple times.

According to the  Georgia Department of Corrections (GDC), Bryant was sentenced to life for a murder in Toombs County.

He was stabbed by Carlos Gadsden who was sentenced to 20 years for child molestation in Chatham County.

Bryant was taken to the Atrium Trauma Center at 1:29 a.m. where he was pronounced dead.

The death is being investigated by the GDC’s Office of Professional Standards, as standard procedure, they say.

The department says early indications are that Gadsen was acting in self-defense but the investigation is ongoing and they could not confirm if that is true.

Bryant's body was sent to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy.
