INDIANAPOLIS — If you're planning a trip to a national park next year, there are six dates that may help you save some money.
The National Park Service has announced its "Free Entrance Days" for 2024, dates where guests get free admission to parks that normally charge an entrance fee.
Next year's Free Entrance Days include:
- Jan.15: Birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr.
- April 20: First day of National Park Week
- June 19: Juneteenth National Independence Day
- Aug. 4: Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act
- Sept. 28: National Public Lands Day
- Nov. 11: Veterans Day
The only national park in Indiana that charges admission on most days is Indiana Dunes National Park in Porter. The cost starts at $15 per person or $25 per private vehicle. The NPS notes that the park is separate from Indiana Dunes State Park, which is operated by the state and may charge their own entry fees, even on Free Entrance Days.
The other NPS properties in Indiana include the George Rogers Clark National Historic Park in Vincennes, the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Lincoln City and several locations along the Ohio River on the Lewis & Clark National Historic Trail.
