Hundreds of cows for show at Georgia National Fairgrounds

Moooove over, the cows are coming through!

Hundreds of Hereford cows are strutting their stuff at the Georgia Hereford Field Day in Perry.

More than 60 children brought their cattle to the Georgia National Fairgrounds for judging on muscling, structure, and body type.

Judges also looked at how well the junior handlers were able to show off their heifer.

Competing against friends and sometimes even siblings, Director of the National Hereford Association Tommy Mead says camaraderie is just one lesson children learn from taking part in the show.

"Well, it's discipline as much as anything that you have chores to do, you know, you can't just go play you have a heifer that needs to be fed twice a day, she has to be cared for, washed and taken care of and that's probably the biggest lesson they learn is taking care of other things," he says.

If you missed the show Friday, the Southeast Regional Show kicks off Saturday.

It runs from 9 a.m. til 1 p.m. at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry.
