As Atrium Health Amphitheater's opening inches closer, here's how local businesses are preparing

The first show with Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Tops kicks off on March 24. A lot of concert-goers could mean a big business boost for Macon.

MACON, Ga. — It's almost go time for the first show at Macon's Atrium Health Amphitheater!

The first show with Lynyrd Skynyrd and ZZ Tops kicks off on March 24.

A lot of concert-goers could mean a big business boost for Macon.

Marisa Rodgers with Visit Macon said they've been anticipating it.

"It's been over a decade since Eisenhower has seen this much change," Rodgers said.

The amphitheater is located across from the Macon Mall, on Eisenhower Parkway, and will seat 10,000 people.

"With each of our larger shows that are coming in, we're expecting $2 [million] to $3 million in economic impact," Rodgers said.

That breaks down to about $200 to $300 spent per person for a sold-out show. Rodgers said the Eisenhower Parkway area is now one of their top priorities.

"We've also heard developers interested. We're hoping to bring in hotels and bring back restaurants and also facilitate the businesses that are there," Rodgers said.

And while it's still a few weeks away, on Eisenhower Parkway one business is getting ready right now for the first show.

Jim Carson with Bulldogs Bar & Grill said they can't wait.

"It's going to bring more people to the area, and then those people are going to get out of whatever even they're in, and they're gonna wanna you know, finish their night. And we hope they'll finish it here," Carson said.

The Bulldogs Bar & Grill is about a mile from the amphitheater. Carson said they're gearing up to make sure their team is ready.

"We're a little worried about oh, okay, we need to really pay attention to the events at the amphitheater and make sure we have enough staff to cover some crush of people that comes in," he said.

Rodgers hopes these concerts will be music to the ears of Macon businesses.

"With the pickleball and the amphitheater coming online, we expect it to just do great things for that side of Macon," Rodgers said.
