HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — Houston County firefighters got the chance to take a break from work and enjoy some quality time with their families at a fall carnival.
Some of the activities for the night included eating snow cones, jumping in a bouncy house, and face painting.
The carnival was right outside of the Central Baptist Church on Lake Joy Road in Warner Robins.
Houston County Fire Department Assistant Chief David Newman said this was the first year the department has put together an event like this, but they hope it will become an annual event to thank firefighters' families.
"People don't recognize it's not just their sacrifice that takes place, it's the families at home that are actually losing time. There's a lot of events that we miss, we miss parties, school recitals, things like that, different stuff we're not allowed to be a part of, because we're out doing a service to our citizens," he said.
Newman adds that 90% of the event was all through donations from local organizations. The rest of the funding came from the fire department.
