ATLANTA — A bomb threat from a hoax email cleared out the Georgia State Capitol on Wednesday, according to Georgia State Patrol.
GSP said in a statement: "A hoax email was sent to an employee this morning about a bomb threat at the Capitol. A search was conducted, and an all-clear was given. The Capitol has been reopened."
Gabriel Sterling, a top-ranking official in the Georgia Sec. of State's Office, posted on X that an all-clear had been given.
"Starting 2024 with a bomb threat at the Georgia State Capitol. Delayed opening until the all clear is given. Avoid the area for now," Sterling wrote at 8:32 a.m.
At 8:55 a.m., Sterling posted again: "The all clear has been given at the Georgia State Capitol following the bomb threat."
11Alive's sister station in Louisville, WHAS, reported a similar threat Wednesday morning that disrupted the day at the Kentucky State Capitol in Frankfort, as well. The NBC affiliate in Jackson, WLBT, reported a threat at the Mississippi State Capitol as well.
The Associated Press later reported additional states that saw threats at their capitols Wednesday included Montana, Connecticut and Michigan.
