Our recent streak of hot weather continues today with highs climbing through the mid and upper 90s. These temperatures, combined with high humidity, will produce heat indices ("feels like" temperatures) in the 100-105 degree range.
As a result, the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a heat advisory for much of central Georgia, effective today from noon to 6pm. Those outdoors are urged to take it easy, stay hydrated, and wear lightweight/light colored clothing. In extreme heat, the public is also urged to be aware of the dangers heat can have on the body. People need to look out for heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially in those outside for an extended period of time, children, and the elderly.
Hot and humid conditions are expected to last through the rest of the week. Highs will be in the upper 90s through Thursday and flirt with 100 degrees for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. These temperatures, combined with high humidity, may produce extremely dangerous "feels like" temperatures in the 100-110 degree range.
