Harley-Davidson of Macon founder dead at 98

A Facebook post from Harley-Davidson of Macon says Grover Sassaman passed away over the weekend in his sleep.

MACON, Ga. — The man who founded Harley-Davidson of Macon has passed away.

A Facebook post from Harley-Davidson of Macon says Grover Sassaman died "peacefully" in his sleep. He was 98-years-old.

The post goes on to say he was a Harley-Davidson dealer for around 40 years before passing it off to his son in the 1980s.

He was also a decorated World War II veteran and received a Purple Heart after being injured in a battle.

13WMAZ spoke with Sassaman about his service back in September 2019. 

He was able to see a plane he worked on as an aircraft mechanic during the war after nearly 80 years.

"He will be missed by his family, friends, and fellow motorcycle riders," the post said.

Funeral services for Sassaman will be held Tuesday in Macon, and those details will follow, according to the Facebook post.
