Gun found in backpack at Houston County High School

A voice message went out to parents earlier today from Principal Jay Jones.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — A gun was found at Houston County High School, according to a voice message that went out to parents.

Jay Jones said they searched a backpack in the school office and confiscated the gun. His message doesn't say whether the gun was loaded or why they searched the backpack.

But Jones told parents that all staff and students are safe. We reached out to the school district for more details so far they've not responded.

13WMAZ will provide updates if additional information is released from the school district.
