LAURENS COUNTY, Ga. — Law enforcement in Laurens County is looking for a man who they say led the Georgia State Patrol on a car chase, according to a Facebook Post from the Laurens County Sheriff's Office.
Georgia Department of Public Safety says troopers overheard sheriff's deputies talking about a stolen car. They found the car and turned on their lights, but the driver sped off.
The driver went two miles before getting off exit 54, then looping around and getting back on the interstate, before crossing over the median, losing control and running away.
Laurens County deputies say he crashed near Highway 19 and I-16.
Now, authorities are encouraging the public to keep an eye out for anyone suspicious walking in that area. They recommend calling 911.
Law enforcement set up a perimeter and used a K-9 and helicopter but were unable to find the suspect as of 8 p.m.
They say there will be a high presence of law enforcement in the area.
Additionally, the sheriff's office also encourages people to make sure their keys are out of their cars and their doors are locked.
The sheriff's office says the man is 5'4'' and 110 lbs.
