Sen. Raphael Warnock, Herschel Walker spar over solutions to cut inflation

When it comes to inflation, the candidates spar over what the solution is. 13WMAZ is trying to cut down the mudslinging and get to the issue.

MACON, Ga. — What will politicians do to solve the inflation crisis?

In October, nearly 800 people answered our 13WMAZ Listening Lab survey in-person or online and more than 43 percent named inflation as a top issue.

13WMAZ is trying to cut the mudslinging and name-calling and get down to the real issue. Here's a breakdown of what Senator Raphael Warnock and Herschel Walker say they plan to do to cut costs for Georgians.

When it comes to inflation, the candidates spar over what the solution is. Let's start with Herschel Walker's stance.

"The truth is the left. They brought this economy on us. They brought this inflation on us," Walker said.

Walker says bad policy has led to the inflation crisis and rising gas prices.

He's spoken against President Joe Biden's decision to cancel the Keystone Pipeline. Walker says the solution is for the nation to become energy independent to reduce cost at the pumps for Americans.

"The reason why--we're going to our enemies to ask for gas and oil. It puts us not just in an inflation problem, but it puts us in a national security problem," Walker said.

Beyond domestic energy production, Walker hasn't offered other solutions to inflation. However, he has focused heavily on criticizing Warnock's response to the issue.

For instance, Walker says he's against the Inflation Reduction Act in September. "[I] had two of my provisions. One caps the cost of prescription drugs for seniors so they don't have to chose between medicine and buying groceries and one caps the cost of insulin," Warnock said.

Warnock says he wants to look at more way to hold corporations accountable. "While we are paying record prices, a lot of our corporate actors are seeing record profits in the oil and gas industry in the pharmaceutical industries," Warnock said.

In June, a bill he co-sponsored, the Ocean Shipping Reform Act, was signed into law. He says it aims to address price gouging by shipping companies, and in return, ease costs for consumers, small businesses and farmers.

As for the price at the pump, Warnock's pushing for President Biden to suspend the federal gas tax.

The runoff is Tuesday, December 6.
