They say it happened in Ocilla in Irwin County.

OCILLA, Ga. — A 16-year-old was arrested for allegedly shooting and killing a 14-year-old in Irwin County, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

They say the shooting happened on Frank Road in Ocilla on Monday night. The Ocilla Police Department asked for the GBI's help with the case.

Earl Wilcox III, 16, was arrested in connection to the death of 14-year-old Marcaulen Downs, the GBI said.

They say Downs was taken to the Irwin County Hospital with a gunshot wound but died when he arrived.

Wilcox was taken to the Regional Youth Detention Center. He's charged with one count of felony murder and one count of aggravated assault.

The investigation into Downs' death is still ongoing. Anyone with information can reach out to the GBI Regional Investigative Office in Perry at 478-987-4545.

Once the investigation is complete, the case file will be given to the Tift Judicial Circuit District Attorney's Office for potential prosecution.
