Georgia US Senator Raphael Warnock makes final stop in Macon

Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock stopped downtown at the Bearfoot Tavern in Macon before election day against his challenger, Republican candidate Herschel Walker

MACON, Ga. — Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock stopped downtown at the Bearfoot Tavern in Macon Monday.

He's locked in a tight race with Republican opponent Herschel Walker.

13WMAZ’s Jessica Cha went to hear Warnock's case for reelection.

"You show up for me for one more day, I'll show up for you for six more years doing the work that you asked me to do,” Senator Warnock told his audience.

Warnock says the people's vote is the most important, and you should remember what you’re voting for.

"We got to show up tomorrow because jobs are on that ballot. We got to show up tomorrow because veterans are on the ballot. We got to show up tomorrow because a woman's right to choose is on the ballot,” he says.

Warnock says challenger Herschel Walker has yet to offer a single solution to help Georgians. He says Walker has opposed him on things like economic issues and health care.

"This man has demonstrated that he cannot tell the truth. Even his own staff think that he’s a pathological liar,” Warnock explains. “He has demonstrated over and over again, a wanton disregard for women. That infects the way you do legislation.”

Warnock says he has helped give tax cuts to families through the American Rescue Plan in 2021, provided funding for service members to receive housing at the Robins Air Force Base, and cares about Georgians' healthcare.

"I've capped the cost of insulin. I've capped the cost of prescription drugs. Those are pocketbook issues. Giving Medicare the ability to negotiate the price of prescription drugs. My opponent said he would vote against all of that,” Warnock explains.

Warnock’s supporters say that matters to them.

"Hooray for Warnock,” says Gloria King, a lifelong Maconite.

King says Warnock is looking out for everyone, "Especially us older people. We need somebody going in there and fighting for us because we don't really have anyone helping us."

Tom Ellington is a political science professor at Wesleyan College. He says he's not worried about the race between Warnock and Walker.

"I would rather be close than be losing. I feel like we're in a really good position to make a strong final push tomorrow and get over the finish line,” he says. "You know, we shocked the world in 2021, and it won’t be such a big shock this time when we pull away from the window.”.

Senator Warnock also says he's prioritized benefits for veterans, and helping Georgia farmers get their products to market.
