Fatal crash leaves one dead, intersection of Houston Avenue and Broadway has been reopened

The crash happened just after 1:30 a.m. on Thursday morning.

MACON, Ga. — A 30-year-old man is dead after crashing into a utility pole in south Macon on Thursday morning, according to a release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Dmondo Eugene Simmons, who is from Warner Robins, was driving south on Broadway at around 1:30 a.m. when he lost control of his Nissan Altima and left the road before hitting the pole.

Deputies found him unresponsive, and he was later pronounced dead at the scene by Deputy Coroner Lonnie Miley.

The crash is still under investigation. The intersection of Houston Avenue and Broadway was closed due to the crash and has since reopened.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation 511 page, it is was closed for nearly 12 hours while repairs were being done.
