MACON, Ga. — There's a drive to improve reading scores around Georgia using the state's new tiered coaching model.
It's based off coaching standards used in Florida that proved successful, according to the Georgia Department of Education.
The state said it'll place 60 full time literacy coaches in elementary schools around Georgia with the lowest literacy rates.
They'll be at 11 schools in Central Georgia, including Peach, Dooly and Bibb county.
Bibb County will have eight elementary schools with literacy coaches.
The state superintendent said this initiative is meant to focus on offering "more direct and intensive support."
According to the GDOE, the schools getting literacy coaches are:
