COLQUITT COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia man is dead after being bitten by a K9 unit during a chase with Georgia State Patrol in Colquitt County, according to a press release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
The GBI — who is investigating the death — says a trooper attempted to pull over Kevin James Kennedy, 44, on Aug. 22 since he was driving a blue 4-wheeler. They say the trooper was aware of a string of thefts and burglaries involving a blue 4-wheeler.
When the trooper tried to stop Kennedy on State Road 33, he sped away, the press release said.
They say the trooper and the 4-wheeler sped through fields, ditches and on the highway. But at one point, Kennedy was driving through a field when he turned the 4-wheeler into the Trooper's patrol car, causing the 4-wheeler to turn over.
That's when the GBI says Kennedy began to run on foot.
They say a K-9 chased Kennedy, caught up to them and then bit Kennedy, stopping him.
But the Trooper noticed that Kennedy had an injury from the bite, and local deputies and medical personnel gave Kennedy medical treatment on scene, the press release said.
Kennedy was taken to a hospital in Macon where he died on Tuesday early afternoon. He was from Pavo, Ga.
