GBI: Former Soperton Police Officer arrested after allegedly pulling gun on a group of people in car

The incident happened on July 26 and he was arrested on August 19.

SOPERTON, Ga. — A former Soperton Police Department Officer has been arrested for aggravated assault and terroristic threats and acts, according to a release from the GBI.

60-year-old Kenneth Bishop of Swainsboro was taken into custody on Monday and charged with three counts of Aggravated Assault and one count of Terroristic Threats and Acts.

On July 26, Bishop was dispatched to work an assault call. The GBI says Bishop allegedly stopped a car occupied by three people who were relatives and friends of the assault victim.

Bishop and the people in the car got into an argument. Bishop pulled out his gun from his holster and pointed it at the people in the car while beating on the windows and threatened to shoot the car, according to a release from the GBI.

On July 31, the Soperton Police Department called the GBI to investigate, and Bishop was booked into the Treutlen County Jail on August 19.

This investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information should contact the GBI regional investigative office in Eastman at 478-374-6988.
