Funeral arrangements announced for Houston County Sheriff Cullen Talton

The service will be held at Southside Baptist Church.

WARNER ROBINS, Ga. — The funeral arrangements for the longest-tenured sheriff in America have been announced on McCullough Funeral Home’s website.

Houston County Sheriff candidate and Houston County captain Matt Moulton released a statement that Houston County Sheriff Cullen Talton died peacefully Saturday morning at his home.

Elected as Houston County Sheriff in 1972, Talton spent over 50 years as the county’s top law enforcement officer.

He will “lie in state” at McCullough Funeral Home from 10-2 on Tuesday.

Then he’ll be taken by motorcade to the church at 3 p.m.

On the way, they’ll pass the Houston County Sheriff's Office and they expect all the employees to turn out and show their respects as the motorcade passes.

The family is holding a visitation on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church in Warner Robins.

His funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Southside Baptist Church. Reverend Jerry Walls, Reverend Jim Perdue and Reverend Fred McCoy will officiate his funeral. Talton will be laid to rest at the Bonaire Cemetery. It will be a private burial service for his family.

Gov. Kemp has announced that flags will fly at half-staff at the Capitol building and in Houston County to honor Talton's contributions to law enforcement.

In the days since his death, folks from all over have spoken highly of Sheriff Talton including former Warner Robins Mayor Randy Toms, former Georgia State Representative Larry Walker and current Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.

“Marty, the girls, and I are saddened by the passing of America’s longest-serving Sheriff, Houston County Sheriff Cullen Talton,” Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp said in a statement on X, formerly known as Twitter. “For nearly 52 years, Sheriff Talton remained committed to serving and protecting the people of his community and became a beloved fixture of Georgia law enforcement. We will keep the Talton family, the Houston County Sheriff’s Office, and all those made better by his public service in our prayers during this time.”
