FORSYTH, Ga. — Downtown Forsyth is still recovering from an August fire.
The blaze burned through a boutique, but it also halted productions next door at "The Rose Theater."
Connie Copelan, the Marketing Director at The Rose Theater, says the wall they share with the boutique now has water and smoke damage.
“The water damage is over the men and women restrooms where the water flowed in from the firefighters and down our walls, the floors and busted some of the ceiling tiles and so forth,” Copelan said.
Copelan says it's been 12 years since the same issue happened with another fire at the theater, but this one is affecting the community differently.
“So, we had water damage that came down the wall and flooded down the carpet as well as we are afraid about some of the loose bricks,” Copeland said.
Realtor Kathy Rowland recommends other businesses nearby get inspections now after this experience.
“People can go in and either update their electrical or check their safety protocol,” Rowland said.
Some of their main costumes and items absorbed the smoke and the restroom ceilings are sunken from the water coming through.
“Curtains, our carpets, our whole costume room is full of costumes and all of those have absorbed that smoke,” Copelan said.
"The Backlot Players" won't be able to perform their scheduled December show 'Scrooge, the Stingiest Man in Town'.
“It's kind of disappointing that we couldn't do it during the 30th year that we're celebrating but we will bring it back in December 2025,” Copelan said.
