FORSYTH, Ga. — The city of Forsyth is getting a new trash company called AmWaste, alongside new trash bins.
Lee Roberts has lived in Forsyth since the 1980's and says he’s had past problems with the old waste management leaving trash behind but he looks forward to the great service.
"When they would come, they would leave a big mess and I haven't seen that kind of mess around town at people's houses since the prior company left," Roberts said.
Eric Wilson, the mayor of Forsyth, says AmWaste will be bringing great quality and service as well as being affordable. He says the cost for a trash bin and recycling bin will be $19.
"Their staff is going around this week to each individual address and making sure they are receiving the cans that are not supposed to be there," said Wilson.
He says keeping the trash in contract with Monroe County people is a priority to him.
"The people in the community are familiar to us and when it was time to make a change, they presented the best option," said Wilson.
Tom Vaughn, the president of AmWaste, has announced that they will be collecting garbage from Monday through Thursday. The specific day will vary depending on the location of the individual.
"It's fun to get to understand the businesses and the homeowners and learn all about making the city of Forsyth the special place that it is."
He says AmWaste expects to be responsive and available 24/7.
"We're kicking this off. We might stub our toes a few times, but give us a call and we will respond quickly," Vaughn said. "If there's something, we can do to make our service better for you and the community better. Please let us know."
