Monroe County 911 lines are down | What you need to know

Monroe County officials say this is not related to the global outage.

MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — Monroe County's 911 lines went down Thursday, but officials say those problems are unrelated to the worldwide outage.

The lines went down around 9 p.m., and are still out. He told us they're doing their best to get the lines back up and that all emergency services are still functioning.

Taylor Rowland says as soon as she heard that the 911 dispatch was down, she felt terrified.

“A lot of times you think 'Oh, an emergency is not going to happen to me today and you never know at that given time it can be one of your loved ones,'” Rowland said.

Despite her initial reaction, Rowland said she new what she needed to do next to prepare for the outage.

“I think it's really important to follow your county's Facebook pages that alert us and let us know because the first thing I did was go and screenshot those emergency numbers,” Rowland said.

Monroe County dispatch deputy Junika Owens says the people's safety is her priority.

“When they call 911, they are still going to get someone here," Owens said. "The only difference is there is no alley or any information meaning that we can't see the address at that time."

While other 911 dispatches are having similar problems, Monroe County officials say this is not related to the global outage.

“We also have this app that we are going to keep updating the public as much as we can. Once it gets back up, we will be notifying the public on that app as well," Owens said.

Rowland says she's concerned for the safety of her community.

“The biggest thing right now is praying that they get it fixed for those who don't have what they need right now,” Rowland said.

Monroe County dispatch says they hope to have the lines back up working soon.
