This Forsyth road is getting a $2 million renovation | Timeline and more details

The city received $2 million in SPLOST funds to repair Montpelier Road

FORSYTH, Ga. — Within the next month drivers in the city of Forsyth might have a tougher commute -  but in the end, their ride will get easier.

Construction is set to begin soon along, repairing potholes along busy Montpelier Road.

Montpelier Road is a major thoroughfare in the city of Forsyth. It's a direct line into multiple schools and connects several neighborhoods in the city.

Many people that live in the area believe schools and commutes could be impacted when the construction begins.

Mayor Eric Wilson says they've heard from a lot of folks in the community which is why they've worked to get to this point.

“It’s definitely a heavily-traveled road that is in need of repair and the city has been working for some time to get to this position to where we can make those repairs to Montpelier Road,” Wilson said.

Lynsey Harris lives near the road, and she says she spends every day risking her vehicle on that road, especially with her kids.

“It’s just not very safe driving conditions especially during the rain and it's very narrow,” Harris said.

The Montpelier Road Project was created by the city in part because of the significant community response. The city will use just over $2 million from SPLOST funds to resurface, widen, and add better drainage to one mile of Montpelier Road.

City officials say it's a very busy road that's been in despair for some time.

While Harris believes construction will cause more traffic it will be beneficial to the community.

“I think it's great that they start it after school starts school starts Aug. 1 for Monroe County. The fact that they're waiting until we kind of get into the flow of picking up and dropping off, I think that's great,” Harris said.
