MACON, Ga. — Former mayoral candidate 43-year-old Shekita Maxwell was arrested on Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.
On June 24, a deputy responded to a home on Atwood Drive about a domestic dispute.
Shekita Maxwell's 23-year-old daughter met the deputy in the driveway.
When deputies met them, the report says she had a visible and bleeding injury to her head, above her right eye.
The daughter said her mother attacked her. She was staying at her grandmother's home for a few weeks because she was sick.
The report says around 8 p.m. Shekita Maxwell came into the room where her daughter was lying down to tell her to get up and start cleaning. The daughter says her mom then dragged her around the house by her hair.
She says this went on for around 30 minutes as her mom dragged her from the bedroom and down the hallway.
The daughter says Maxwell dragged her into the bathroom by her hair and slammed her head into the toilet several times. She also says her mother threw her phone into the yard so she couldn't call law enforcement, the report says.
At the time, the daughter and Maxwell were the only ones home, the report says.
When the grandmother did arrive home, she told the deputy that the daughter and her mother had been having issues for the past several months and as part of a prior court order Shekita Maxwell is supposed to be getting counseling for anger management issues.
On Wednesday, Maxwell was granted bond for $21,400, and she is still in custody, the sheriff's office says. They say the arrest is also a violation of her parole.
She is charged with battery, interfering with the calls for emergency assistance and false imprisonment.
However, this is not the first time Maxwell has had brushes with the law.
