MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — It's been a few days since powerful storms hit Central Georgia. We know an EF-0 tornado hit Twiggs County Monday morning.
Sunday, an EF-0 tornado hit Baldwin. For some folks there the damage was minor but others lost their homes. Wednesday they got a helping hand as one law firm provided 500 free meals in Milledgeville.
Keena Stevenson says when the storm came in it knocked out their power for nine hours. She says this food giveaway is a blessing.
"We couldn't cook or nothing for nine hours. When our power came back on we lost it again," Stevenson said.
Stevenson says she and her family couldn't leave their home for two days because of flooding. In the wake of the storms, Forrest B. Johnson thought folks might need some help.
This is why his law firm put together a food giveaway.
"If you've been blessed I think it is a blessing to bless others," Johnson said.
Ronald Veal heard about the free meals and came out to pay it forward to those still struggling from the storm.
"Some of them might not make it to get here. So, I'm going to go find those who can't get here and give it to them. I really appreciate what's going on here," Veal said.
Johnson says they provided goodie bags for children as well as meals from S&S cafeteria to help families hit hard by the tornado.
"If I could see one child and see the smile on that child's face after being blessed with a really good meal that's enough for me," Johnson said.
Johnson says his Law Firm teamed up with the Red Cross, and the city to make it all happen. Baldwin EMA officials say Sunday's storm damaged at least 10 businesses and 20 homes.
