Laurens County is seeing a surge of travelers as Florida residents escape Hurricane Helene

Dublin's La Quinta Wyndham is expecting people throughout Wednesday night into Thursday, hotel manager Dana Kinzler says.

DUBLIN, Ga. — As Hurricane Helene heads toward the Gulf Coast, some people are leaving Florida and heading north.

Dana Kinzler - the manager of the La Quinta Wyndham hotel in Dublin - says they've already had twenty people check in from the sunshine state.

13WMAZ went to Dublin to hear more.

Kinzler says the La Quinta Wyndham is expecting people throughout Wednesday night into Thursday.

"We do have people that are booked from Florida," Kinzler said. "We've seen the addresses. We have people that are booked from over the coast that are coming in a little ways. We also have workers here that the the power companies are sending."

Kinzler says in the past hurricanes she has seen, people bring their animals, and also ask about parking motor homes and buses at the hotel.

"What we can offer here is accommodations, a friendly face, a hot breakfast, and things of that nature to try to get away from the storm," Kinzler said. "You do see a lot of people with pets."

Kinzler says they have pet-friendly rooms, though the hotel needs a heads-up from guests who will be accompanied by pets.

She says during hurricanes, she encourages people to leave the coast and Florida for safety.

"It's better to be safe than sorry," she said.

The hotel says travelers can still book rooms even if they are full, because there is a waiting list.
