A fire that apparently started in a fireplace destroyed a Wilkinson County home Wednesday night.
The fire started after 10 p.m. at the home on Starley Road, off J.R. Sims Road.
Billy Matthews of the Wilkinson County fire department says the house is a "total loss, pretty well gutted all the way through."
He said the couple was sleeping, but escaped without injury.
Matthews said Wilkinson County firefighters were on the scene for about two hours.
