SAN ANTONIO — Two families are in mourning after the bodies of a pregnant woman and her boyfriend were found Tuesday afternoon.
The discovery brings an end to a desperate search for Savanah Soto, who was the subject of a CLEAR Alert that was issued on Monday, and her boyfriend, Matthew Guerra. Police later said in a report that both of the victims were found "with a gunshot wound," but an official cause of death has yet to be determined.
Here’s how the missing persons case developed:
- Friday afternoon - Soto and Guerra were reportedly last seen leaving their apartment in a Kia Optima.
- Saturday - Soto's mother said Savanah missed her appointment at the hospital to be induced. She filed a missing persons report.
- Monday - A CLEAR Alert was issued by the Leon Valley Police Department for Savanah.
- Tuesday - Soto and Guerra were found dead in a car in the Medical Center area.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus wouldn't say how the two died, but he said they may have been in the vehicle for up to four days.
McManus said this could be a possible murder case.
Around 4 p.m. Tuesday, the family got a tip that the vehicle the two were last seen driving was spotted at a different apartment complex.
That's when they called police.
"What we're looking at right now is a very, very perplexing crime scene," McManus said.
Both the families of Savanah Soto and Matthew Guerra were at the scene, in tears, as police discovered the bodies.
"She was a good girl. She didn't deserve to go this way, especially with her baby. He was an innocent child. Nobody deserved this," said Soto's grandmother, Rachel Soto.
She told KENS 5 her granddaughter was a loving person who was excited to give birth to her baby boy, and when she didn't show up to the hospital, they knew something was wrong.
For days, they've been searching, praying and hoping to find her.
"My prayers were answered, but not for what I wanted," she said.
The Soto family said Savanah had not delivered her baby.
"We still don't have no answers as to what happened to her," Rachel said.
Now, they're left wondering what led up to this tragedy.
"It's going to be a hard thing for us because we lost my grandson a year ago, two years ago and now her."
Rachel added that while the family is leaning on each other, they're aware of all the support that has come from strangers.
"I thank everybody for their prayers and their support they’re giving all of us in our time of need. Family, friends, all over. I thank you, from the bottom of my heart."
San Antonio Police couldn't say how the two ended up in the Medical Center apartment complex, but they are now leading this investigation.
