It's been seven months since Sam Poss was killed, and now his family is finding a way to honor his memory.
Family and friends gathered at Steak Out in Warner Robins for a night of music, fun and games, all to raise money for the Sam Poss Memorial Scholarship.
The Perry teen went missing back in October of 2016, before being found dead in a wooded area.
Poss' mother, Nicole, says just days after her son's death, Sam's dad came up with the idea to create a scholarship in his name -- giving $1,000 to a Perry High School graduating senior that is a percussionist in the school band.
"He had just graduated from high school and he was the drum line captain," Nicole said. "It's something he loved so this just felt very natural for us to go there."
Nicole says they'll award the scholarship to the first recipient on Thursday.
She says the family hopes to make this an annual event and maybe give out more than one scholarship a year.
