2.2 earthquake confirmed near Eatonton by United States Geological Survey

Earthquakes are common around Lake Sinclair, but are very small.

EATONTON, Ga. — Some people heard a loud rumble and felt the ground shake in the Lake Sinclair area over the weekend. 

The United States Geological Survey confirmed an earthquake near Eatonton on Sunday. 

It centered near the intersection of Southshore Road and Waters Edge Drive in the Twin Bridges area. 

They say they recorded a magnitude 2.2 earthquake just after 7:34 a.m. Sunday morning. 

So far, seven people tell USGS they felt the earthquake near their reporting site. 

An earthquake was reported near there at the end of Dec. too. 

Then. the USGS reported it was 2.0 on the magnitude scale and happened about 5.7 miles deep. 

It’s the minimum level a human can feel.

Earthquakes are common around Lake Sinclair, but are very small.

They usually feel like a slight rumble that you get after a clap of thunder.
