Georgia home catches fire after lightning strike during Memorial Day storms, police say

DULUTH, Ga. — A Duluth home was set on fire after being struck by lightning on Memorial Day, the police department announced on Facebook.

The fire broke out at the home on North Berkeley Lake Road. According to police, no one was hurt. 

Gwinnett County Firefighters and Duluth Police officers responded to the incident.

The fire happened as strong storms moved through the metro Atlanta area on the holiday, causing lightning, heavy rain and thunderstorms. 

Some Georgia areas were under tornado watches and warnings during the early morning hours.

Metro Atlanta and north Georgia neighborhoods cleaned up after trees and power lines were down after the storms.
