Wrightsville Murder Victim's Family Forgives Killer

The victim's family is forgiving a Wrightsville man who killed 23-year-old Khristal Wright.

Khristal Wright was shot to death, her body left on a country road in Laurens County and found Friday night.

"It made me feel like she was nothing but a bag of trash. And she wasn't. She was a human being," says Effie Bellamy who helped raised Wright.

Saturday morning, sheriff's deputies arrested 21-year-old Davoris Hodges. It's a name the Wrights have known for years.

"They was good friends. They made aCDtogether, they did music together," says Kimberly Hawkins Jones of her 23-year-old daughter.

Hodges was charged for murder and and armed robbery. Because the Hodges are close family friends, the Wrights are ready to forgive.

"Istill love that family because we're all family and friends and the mom can't help what her son did," says Jones.

"They pray for us. We pray for them. They loss and we loss," Bellamy says.

Wright was a Johnson County school resource officer, but GBI says that the shooting was not connected to her school duties.

"Imean she's going to be greatly missed. Great deputy, great friend and just can't be replaced," says Anthony Akridge, a Laurens County investigator.

As family members cope with grief, they also worry about Wright's only daughter.

"She's got a five-year-old daughter that we've got to raise. She'll never see her mother again," says Bellamy.

The Laurens County sheriff's office and GBI are investigating the shooting.

13WMAZ called the Hodges' home and a family member said they had no comment.
