Laurens County schools will be closed Friday due to the spreading of a highly contagious virus.
According to a news release, the schools will be sanitized over the next few days.
Rob Johnson, the superintendent of Laurens County schools, spoke with us and said he closed all nine schools after more than 100 students went home sick today. Johnson said they call in the health department to take samples. Health workers told them it looked like norovirus.
Norovirus generally lasts about 72 hours. The schools are in the middle of taking the Georgia Milestone test. Johnson said tomorrow is a make-up day. The schools will re-open Monday.
