Construction workers in Dublin are making progress on a new water park the entire community can enjoy.
Of course, the old splash pad is still open at Southern Pines Park, but the workers are busy nearby to ensure kids will be diving into the deep end in no time.
While crews are working daily, runners like Mary Shadron are curious about what’s being built.
"I was excited! I went over there and looked at the board on Monday just to see what it was going to be," Shadron said.
Not only is the $1.5 million project on budget, but Danny Jones with the Dublin Recreation Department says good weather has kept the project on time as well.
"We are planning on opening next spring," Jones said.
The water park will be full of fun featuring two water slides, a lazy river, lap pool and even a kiddie pool
Jones added that they plan on remodeling the building next to the water park too.
"Everything is going to be redone in the building, (they are) going to gut the building, put new showers in and changing areas, plus the bathroom," Jones said.
While construction continues, parents like Shadron are looking forward to some fun in the sun once the park is done.
"I think it's good to have something really close to home, so you don't have to travel so far with the kids, to have something nice to go outside and do," Shadron said.
Jones says they haven’t figured out a cost for entry to the water park yet, but they hope to keep the prices low.
