'Water is a necessity': Dublin residents without running water for almost 24 hours at apartment complex

Neighbors said the water went out around 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, and it came back on around noon Thursday.

DUBLIN, Ga. — Kneece Sykes has lived in the Claxton Pointe North apartments since 2008. It's where she's raised her family of three young boys.

On Wednesday she came home to cook dinner, and she realized her water wasn't running.

"Water is a necessity. We can't use the toilet properly, we can't take showers. We can't cook food," Sykes said.

Neighbors said the water went out Wednesday around 2:00 p.m.

Daniel Coney's another neighbor who was frustrated when he heard the news.

"When you really think about it, water not being on — what if a fire were to break out," Coney said.

Each month, residents pay for utilities as part of their rent bill. Those utilities include a fee for water.

The money they give the apartment's company, Asset Living, is supposed to pay the water bill for everyone.

So when Sykes saw city employees turning off the water Wednesday, she was confused. She asked one of the employees what was going on and he told her this.

"The water hasn't been paid, and they were aware. They screenshotted a copy of the bill today. He said they've been over here twice, and they haven't paid it," Sykes said.

Renia Cook, from the City of Dublin, confirmed Wednesday that the city turned off the water after management didn't pay the bill. She said the City of Dublin gives three notices to a company before turning off the water.

13WMAZ spoke with the leasing manager, who said she did not have a comment at this time.

The apartment complex did have a sign printed on their door that said:

"Water will be turned on today. Dear valued residents, we are fully aware of the ongoing water situation. We are actively working on resolving the issue. We apologize for the inconvenience, and we deeply appreciate your patience."

Around noon Thursday, the water got turned back on.

Coney said the inconvenience was definitely something to apologize for. When her sons came home from practice yesterday, they weren't able to take showers at home. She had to drive them about half an hour away to her mom's house, in Soperton.

"So we all were out of comfort zone you know, cause quite naturally, you get home, you wanna be able to shower and go to bed," Coney said.

13 WMAZ reached out to the apartment's company, Asset Living, and they did not get back to us.

The City of Dublin said they were doing everything in their power on Thursday to address the situation.
