151 Madison Street in Macon has been a school before, but now it's home to Dream Academy.
"When you walk in to the Dream Academy now, into this building, you won't even think about what it was because it doesn't even feel like what it was," school founder and board chair Karla Redding-Andrews said.
She's the daughter of the late musician Otis Redding. Dream Academy Superintendent and Head of School Chara Willaford says the new look goes along with their brand new curriculum that integrates the arts and music into everything they teach.
"We're even calling our students art scholars, which creates the scholars feeling a sense of pride in themselves, and merges the rigorous academics and rigorous arts piece," Willaford said.
Debra Gomez says she's excited for the doors the new school will open for her soon-to-be 6th grade daughter.
"My daughter loves to sing, she loves to do artwork," Gomez said. "A lot of the other schools where they say they do art, it's a specialty class, and here, they're going integrate arts throughout everything that they do at the school."
Gomez says she hopes that other parents let their children experience the dream, too.
"This is a new school and a new opportunity," Gomez said. "I don't want it to be shadowed by anything that was here before. They need to give this place a chance."
The school currently has about 300 students enrolled and has space for more. Enrollment is open to any student Kindergarten - 6th grade throughout the state of Georgia.
