'I get to brag about Bragg Jam': Bragg Jam prepares for its 25th anniversary

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the annual concert crawl.

MACON, Ga. — Get ready to groove in downtown Macon this weekend at Bragg Jam.

This year marks the silver anniversary of the concert crawl. It's happening Saturday, July 27.

For 25 years, music lovers gather in the heart of downtown Macon at Bragg Jam.

"I get to brag about Bragg Jam," Bragg Jam president Olivia Walter said

Walter moved from Nashville, Tennessee, to Macon in 2012.

In 2017, she joined the Bragg Jam team as an organizer.

"Macon's music history is so rich, it's so important to keep it going," Walter said. "Amazing artists like Otis Redding, Little Richard, the Allman brothers. They're legends in the minds of music and how music was created all over the world."

As someone who grew up in "Music City," Walter loves keeping Macon's music history alive and, through Bragg Jam, wants to support the local musicians.

"I didn't know any of the bands, but it didn't matter because I met some of the greatest friends I've ever had," Walter said.

When she was at her first Bragg Jam ever, Walter said she created countless memories. The people who attend not only get to have fun at the concert crawl but also support local, and upcoming artists and musicians.

"I was getting a big hug from Macon the first time I was here," she said.

Walter explained the ticket sales contribute to supporting the performers.

Tickets are $40 for general admission, which gives you access to all of the venues at the concert crawl.

VIP tickets are $125. In addition to venue access, you also get the official Bragg Jam t-shirt, access to an exclusive lounge with air conditioning and an open bar for guests of 21 years old.

The event is named after a couple of brothers, Braxx and Tate Bragg, who were both musicians from Macon.

When they died in a car accident during the summer of 1999, their loved ones gathered to put together "Bragg Jam" in honor of the brothers.

"In order to support their friend and memorialize him, we started Bragg Jam as a sort of get-together to make music continue to thrive here, and it's really just lived on ever since, and sort of spread throughout the community," Walter said.

Six venues in Downtown Macon are hosting live concerts for the final weekend of July. You can find the shows happening at:

  • Parking Lot Stage: adjacent to the Blacksmith's Shop
  • JBA: 425 Cherry Street
  • Serenity: 427 Poplar St., Suite A
  • Capricorn Studios: 450 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
  • The Capitol Theater: 382 2nd St.
  • Grant's Lounge: 576 Polar St.

All ages are welcome to Capricorn Studios and The Capitol Theater venues. If you're 21 and older, you have access to all the venues.

Walter said you don't want to miss it.

"A lot of memories are created with people at Bragg Jam," she said.
