Dodge County High School and Middle School placed on lockdown after threat on campus

A suspect is in custody.

DODGE COUNTY, Ga. — Dodge County High School and Middle School were both placed on lockdown, according to a Facebook post from the school district.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office said a student was taken into custody by a SWAT team in the bathroom of Harvey's Supermarket in Eastman. The suspect ran from the high school but no shots were fired. No one was injured.

The situation is under investigation. High school administrators and the sheriff's department responded to the situation.

They did not say what happened but the school district said everyone is safe.

"This is a town where just about everybody knows one another. I know just about everybody in this town. it's a community that cares about one another. It's just sad that something like this would happen," said Dodge County Sheriff Brian Robinson.

The Dodge County Sheriff's office still has not found the gun in question.
They are not releasing the student's name, and no word yet on possible charges. Moms of students at Dodge County would like to see more safety measures put in place.

Amanda Harris and Josi Johnson both have children at the schools.

"Because it's already reached here, it's a small place that's reached here and we need to take some action. We need to do something about it," Johnson said.

"More police in the schools because if the kids can walk in there with a gun. Oh, God, it's not safe," Harris said.

Harvey's released the following statement:

"We are taking this matter very seriously because the safety of our associates and customers is our highest priority. We continue to fully cooperate with local law enforcement in this active investigation, and we would like to thank the Dodge County Sheriff's Office for their quick response and commitment to protecting our community."
