'Scary because you never know who's out there': Discovery of Bibb inmate's alleged get-away car concerns neighbors

Last Friday, Bibb deputies found the blue challenger possibly connected to the escape of four inmates in the Baconsfield Shopping Area between the Subway and Biomat

MACON, Ga. — While the search for the four inmates continues — including a murder suspect — law enforcement made a break in the case last week.

On Friday, investigators found that blue Dodge Challenger at an East Macon shopping center.

“They need to find them,” Shamika Clark said. “Everybody is just walking around not knowing what's going on. I don’t feel safe at work."

Bibb deputies found the blue challenger in the Baconsfield Shopping Center between the Subway and the Biomat. That is right by the Kroger.

Just around the corner from that is the state probation office and a dialysis center. That is the dialysis center Clark works at.

“We have to be at work at 4 o’clock in the morning,” Clark explained. “So, that's kind of scary because you never know who's out there."

She says she had never noticed the car and was in complete shock when law enforcement found it.

“I'm glad I wasn’t at work,” Clark said.

However, Tommie Hall was.

“In my job area, from looking out the door, there was just police officers lined around. Kind of just around the parking lot area,” he said.

Hall works at the El Sombrero nearby. He said he saw law enforcement and the U.S. Marshals come for the car.

“A customer came into the restaurant, like, literally two nights ago and he was like, 'You know they found the blue Challenger in the parking lot?’ I was like, ‘For real?’ That’s what the cops were here for.”

Hall said the restaurant had gotten robbed a few weeks ago and says crime is common in the area.

“A lot of stuff happens in these parking lots in this area. So, it's, like, from drugs to a lot of stuff. So, yeah I'm not surprised,” Hall said.

Clark says finding the car is fine, but law enforcement needs to find the inmates.

“You don't know what these guys are gonna do because they want to stay out of prison or jail, you know? Like I said, it's very scary,” Clark said.

We also spoke to other people there who say they believe the car picked up by deputies was not the one used in the escape.

According to them, the photo of the car – shared by the sheriff's office -- looks different from the photo taken outside the jail last week.

We asked the sheriff's office about that over the weekend and asked how they knew it was the same vehicle. They declined to answer.

We're told discussing those and other details of the case would hinder their investigation.

If you have any information on the whereabouts of the four escaped inmates, the Bibb Sheriff's office says you can call their tip lines at (478) 310-5402 or (478) 310-4485.

Or you can call the  Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 1-877-68CRIME.

They're also recommending you call the FBI’s tip line at 1-800-225-5324.
