When will Delta be back to normal? Plus, how you can navigate the ongoing flight disruptions

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines has been particularly hard-hit by the disruptions from Friday, and delays within its global network continue.
11Alive's Jerry Carnes reports.

ATLANTA — Delays and cancellations are continuing for Delta Air Lines, with the company still trying to fully recover operationally from Friday's worldwide computer systems outage.

Atlanta-based Delta Air Lines was particularly hard-hit by Friday's disruptions, and delays within its global network continued over the weekend and into this week. That has meant long lines and scrambled travel itineraries at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

What can I do?

Right now, if you're among the Delta customers stuck in limbo and still trying to make a flight, all you can really do is monitor and manage/change your itinerary through Delta's website or the Fly Delta app. Those systems, of course, have also been overwhelmed in part by the many travelers trying to access them; Delta said its platforms have been "inundated with traffic, causing intermittent performance challenges," and "Delta teams are working to stabilize those tools."

When will operations be back to normal?

At this time, there is no official word from Delta on when things will be back to normal.

Customers are encouraged to manage changes to their travel via delta.com or the Fly Delta app.
  2. Delta is reaching out to customers about cancellations and re-booking options. The company said it will customers about delays and cancellations in their itinerary via the Fly Delta app and text message and offering re-booking options that can be managed online.
  3. While customers can monitor and manage their itineraries on Delta.com or on the Fly Delta app, the airline said these online tools have been inundated with traffic, causing some performance challenges.
  4. Issuing SkyMiles Program miles or a travel voucher in an amount based on the customer’s affected travels.

Delta is providing vouchers for some expenses resulting from the flight disruption. Below is what the company had to say about specifics.

  • Meal vouchers, hotel accommodations where available, and ground transportation are being provided to impacted customers.
  • Reimbursement of eligible expenses. Customers who have incurred hotel, meal or ground transportation expenses while in transit during this operational disruption may submit eligible expenses for reimbursement.*
