MACON, Ga. — Dozens of people stepped outside of their comfort zones to show solidarity for folks dealing with homelessness at Daybreak’s Sleepout fundraiser earlier this month.
On Tuesday, Daybreak officials alongside the Rolling Stones' Chuck Leavell announced the final count on how much money was raised and exceeded their goal for the year.
They brought in $326,909 with every cent going towards what Daybreak does for people without a permanent address.
Meals come every morning, folks can grab a shower, have counseling sessions, and sit down for a medical checkup.
One night in a tent doesn't give one the real fear of not having a home, but it does provide dollars for Daybreak to act as a lifesaver in a storm.
In partnership with Daybreak, 13WMAZ also helped raise money for the sleepout through a campaign to bring awareness to the issue.
13WMAZ had members of our team sleepout and produce a series of stories highlighting some of the key issues and emotional stories of those who have faced homelessness. 13WMAZ's campaign saw more than 30 people donate $2,150 total.
