'Critter Fixers: Country Vets' gets a premiere date

After months of waiting, two Central Georgia veterinarians now know the date when their show will premiere on Nat Geo Wild.

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ga. — For Dr. Vernard Hodges, these last few months have been a dream come true.

"For a country boy like myself, that has been different," he says.

He and his Critter Fixer partner Terrence Ferguson have spent the last few months filming, traveling, and promoting their series, "Critter Fixers: Country Vets."

He says, "They'd be here from 8:00 in the morning to 6:00 at night, or sometimes 8:00 at night if our schedules are like that. They basically lived with us."

Hodges says now that a premiere date is set, it's all about promoting the show, most recently in Los Angeles. "I never had anybody make my eyebrows a little darker or anything, but it's been a lot of fun."

The date is Saturday, March 7, and the Critter Fixers are out to show the good and the bad.

"We'll talk about different spins on veterinary medicine, just being here in the south, how we talk, how we communicate, how Dr. Ferguson and I have camaraderie, we've been together 20 years," he says. "You get to see puppies delivered, we had a large turtle come in with a huge wound, and we also went out and castrated a camel."

Hodges says he and Ferguson are also out to show a new side of the field.

"African-American veterinarians, we're less than three percent of the population, so it's not many of us, so it also shows there's diversity in this field," he says.

Hodges says with all the hometown support from Central Georgia, he can't wait to make everyone proud.

Hodges and Ferguson will host a premiere party in Fort Valley at Southern Bridle Farms on March 7.

It's first-come, first-serve, and you can RSVP on the Critter Fixers Facebook page or through Eventbrite.
