Crisp County student arrested for potential threats, sheriff's office says

They say the threats were made via an app called TextNow.

CRISP COUNTY, Ga. — A Crisp County student was arrested for making terroristic threats, according to a release from the Crisp County Sheriff's Office.

They say Morgan Travelstead, 17, made the threats on an app called TextNow. Travelstead has been charged with making terroristic threats, according to the release.

“We take all threats to the safety and security of our citizens seriously," Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock said. "We want to assure our community that any and all threats of violence within our school system will be thoroughly investigated. The safety of our students, teachers, and staff is of utmost importance, and we are committed to working diligently with school officials and other partners to ensure a safe environment for all."

The release says that no weapons were found in Travelstead's possessions - or his vehicle - when he was arrested.

The sheriff's office has been in contact with Georgia Emergency Management and  Homeland Security Agency Area 2 School Resource Division, per the release.

This case is still under investigation. The Crisp County Sheriff's Office urges anyone with information to report it immediately.

“The Crisp County School System appreciates the Crisp County Sheriff’s Office support and quick response to this incident," Crisp County Schools Superintendent Cindy Hughes said. "Our number one priority is the safety of our students and staff members."
