Crisp County deputy arrested, suspended for alleged DUI after crash

Crisp County EMS transported two people to Crisp Regional Hospital and they were later released.

CRISP COUNTY, Ga. — A Crisp County deputy was arrested on Sunday for an alleged DUI, according to a press release from the Crisp County Sheriff's Office.

They say it happened just after midnight.

The Georgia State Patrol (GSP) was called to investigate a two-car crash on East 24th Avenue near 4th Street. The crash involved an off-duty Sheriff's deputy.

They say Evans admitted to troopers he was looking at his cell phone while driving when he crossed the center line. Both cars attempted to swerve to avoid the crash but could not.

Evans car hit another car on the road head-on. Three of the people in the other car were taken to Crisp Regional Hospital with minor to visible injuries, GSP says.

Troopers determined Evans was under the influence of alcohol and placed him under arrest for DUI.

They took Evans to Crisp Regional Hospital where a legal blood draw was performed and then took him to the Crisp County Law Enforcement Center for processing.

He was then booked into the Crisp County Detention Center.

Evans was released on bond and is suspended pending investigation, the release says.

Georgia State Patrol is investigating.
