An HBO series will start filming in downtown Macon at the beginning of June, but the prep work is already underway.
People walking around downtown Macon will see a different scene than what they’re used to – comic book characters coming to life.
“The HBO series [codenamed] Brooklyn that’s being filmed here is actually an interpretation of DC Comics’ Watchmen,” said Jacob Schulz, an employee at Comics Plus. “All of the superheroes weren’t as super when they were trying to save people, they had their own trials and tribulations.”
Schulz says they’ll be within walking distance of the sets.
“It’s going to be really nice. We’ll probably get several comic book fans who come to the store to see them filming,” said Schulz.
Crews will begin prepping the site on May 29, but in the meantime, Macon-Bibb’s government and the production company have come up with a schedule showing when and where they will film some scenes.
They’re announced they’ll be shooting on Second Street from the Greek Coroner Deli to Michael’s on Mulberry, as well as the Douglass Theatre.
There’s also going to be a car stunt scene around Fifth Street.
For people gearing up to see the actors and filming, they’re scheduled to be shooting in Macon for just two days – June 5 and 6 – so you might want to plan if you want to check it out.
