A Jones County doctor accused of illegally prescribing drugs to patients has dismissed his lawyers, according to a motion filed in U.S. District Court.
Franklin and Laura Hogue, who are currently listed as Thomas Sachy's attorney, have filed a motion to withdraw.
They wrote that Sachy's mother and co-defendant, Maureen Sachy, delivered them a letter, allegedly signed by Thomas Sachy, stating that he no longer desired their services.
The judge hearing Sachy's case, Tilman Self, has not yet approved their motion to withdraw.
Lawyers on both sides of the case are scheduled to meet Wednesday morning to discuss motions in the case at 10 a.m. before Self at the U.S. District Court in Macon.
Among other motions pending:
- prosecutors want to take Sachy's property connected to the drug charges;
- they've also filed a motion aimed at keeping all the defendants' personal records private;
- and Sachy himself wants the judge to reconsider his order keeping Sachy in custody until trial.
Until then, Sachy remains in federal custody.
Federal indictments say Sachy illegally prescribed several types of opioids and other drugs and that those illegal prescriptions killed or injured at least two people.
He and three staff members at his Gray office, including his mother, were arrested in May after a year-long investigation.
