Correction: Man suing city for use of his name not Macon Water Authority member

We initially identified the man by the same name as a member of the Macon Water Authority.

MACON, Ga. — A man is suing the county for the use of his name, according to a federal lawsuit filed on Monday.

Desmond Lee Brown, who we incorrectly identified as the Macon Water Authority member Desmond D. Brown in a previous story, filed a lawsuit that said he has copyrighted the words “Desmond Lee Brown .”

He wants the county to pay him $500,000 for each time his full name was used in court documents – including putting his name on the envelope.

"I'm not trying to get any more money than what is rightfully and lawfully owed to me. I can come to the Bibb County Courthouse and pick up the payment in the form of a check,” Brown wrote in a May 9 invoice to the county.

His lawsuit also claims he’s “in pauperis” – too broke to pay court fees. His filing says he’s now unemployed and has $10 in his checking account.

13WMAZ reached out to the man who filed the lawsuit and confirmed he was not the elected official.

We apologize for the error in our initial reporting on the lawsuit.
