Cordele man with 'serious felony drug convictions' convicted of distributing of meth, U.S. Attorney's Office says

The man plead guilty to selling 279.51 grams of meth to a confidential informant, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Georgia said.

CORDELE, Ga. — A Cordele man and 'career offender' was sentenced to 15 years in jail for selling 279.51 grams to a GBI and Crisp County Sheriff informant, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Georgia.

In a media release, 41-year-old Alexis Sylvester Holton pleaded guilty to one count of distributing methamphetamine on April 11. He is not eligible for parole.

After serving 15 years in prison, Holton will face an additional three years of supervised release, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.

But they say that this isn't Holton's first run-ins with the law.

While they did not provide many details on the previous convictions, they say he had been convicted of "several" crimes before, including two "prior serious felony drug convictions" in the Superior Court of Crisp County.

"The most disruptive repeat offenders in Crips County and across the district will face the possibility of federal charges for their continued criminal actions causing significant harm in the communities they reside," U.S. Attorney Peter Leary said in the press release.

According to the press release, the informant began working with authorities at the start of October 2021, and they continued to work with them until Feb. 9, 2022. They say Holton and the informant had nine exchanges.

"It is always reassuring when we identify major drug offenders in our community," Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock said. "It is a good day to know that our community is a little safer because justice was served."

GBI Director Chris Hosey says that the conviction of Holton will have a positive impact on the community, slowing the spread of Meth in Cordele.

"This investigation has resulted in the disruption of significant methamphetamine supply to the cordele area," Hosey said in the press release. "We are grateful for our partnership with the other investigative agencies."
