MACON, Ga. — The Wilcox community is holding one little girl and her family in their hearts as they go through the organ donation process.
Preslee Jackson is a Wilcox County Elementary School second grader.
She was diagnosed with an Arteriovenous malformation by doctors, who said she was born with it. It causes brain bleeds, which then causes the brain to swell.
Wilcox Schools had declared Friday, January 5th as 'wear purple for Preslee day' to honor her and all the joy she brought to her classmates and community.
They said that she was "an excellent student who loved her friends, classmates, and teachers. She had a bright personality and infectious smile that constantly radiated joy throughout the school. She will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her."
Preslee's mom, Kelli Jackson, has posted on Facebook about their journey and said that people as far away as New Zealand have sent messages of encouragement and hope to their family.
She shared updates about Preslee and her personality, and said that "her favorite color is PURPLE (purpo as she says it ), her favorite song is Bad Blood by Taylor Swift, her favorite food is cucumbers (doesn’t even peel them), she loves to match with me, and her favorite drink is a pink drink from Starbucks (yes she’s that spoiled)."
"Anyone that knows Preslee knows she lights up a room, has the cheesiest smile, is super sassy, and super caring. She would give you the shirt off her back if you asked her for it. Preslee has always been a daddy’s girl and her mama’s mini me." she added in an earlier post.
Sadly, Preslee was pronounced brain dead on Wednesday, after being transported to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston.
An update from her mom on Facebook said that they were proceeding with organ donation, and asked for prayers.
As of 10 hours ago, Kelli shared on Facebook that the family is still at CHOA waiting on the transplant team to tell them when they will do the transplant surgery.
She said that "Lifelink and the CHOA nurses have her stable and within good numbers for transplant. We are waiting on some last tests to be ran tomorrow to finalize everything. "
She ended the post by thanking the community for all their support and love over the past week.
