MACON, Ga. — A Central Georgia community leader has died.
According to his obituary, Albert Abrams was 63 years old.
Abrams was a Thomasville native and a lifelong member of the St. Thomas African Methodist Episcopal Church.
His obituary says he is a graduate of Thomasville High School and Mercer University, where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees.
Abrams had community service career history with the Georgia State Board of Education, Bibb County Board of Education, Board of Directors for the Medical Center of Central Georgia, Board of Directors for SunTrust Bank, Board of Trustees for the United Way of Central Georgia, 100 Black Men of Macon, Macon Chamber of Commerce, and the Macon-Bibb Economic Opportunity Council.
Abrams was chosen to be one of the torch bearers for the Atlanta 1996 Centennial Olympics because of his commitment to service, his obituary says.
A memorial service for Abrams will be held at 11 a.m. on Dec. 27 at the Charles H. Jones Center at Middle Georgia State University.
Family visitation and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Omega Services will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 26 at Hutchings Funeral Home.
His family asks that people make donations to the Middle Georgia State University Foundation or the American Cancer Society instead of sending flowers.
